I've heard a great deal about how dangerous Australia can be as far as the flora and fauna are concerned. Is that exaggerated or pretty accurate?

Depends where you live. If you live WAY into the country, I guess it can be. I've never been out that far so I don't really know but here in Melbourne, where I live, it's pretty chilled. Crime rate could be better probably though!
